Smashed Christmas Tacos (High Protein + Festive Flavor Bombs!)

Christmas dinner… but make it handheld, cheesy, and full of holiday cheer! These Smashed Christmas Tacos are a fun and flavorful twist on your classic festive plate. Instead of piling your favorites onto a plate, why not tuck them into a crispy, golden taco shell and enjoy every bite with your hands? These are super easy to make, surprisingly high in protein, and ridiculously tasty.

I made six of these little flavor pockets using turkey mince, brie, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and even pigs in blankets. The outside is golden and savory, and the inside? Total Christmas magic. Whether you’re hosting a party or just craving something different for dinner, these are a must-try this season!

Method

1. Mix the Turkey Mince

Start by placing your 500g of turkey mince into a small mixing bowl. Season it well with salt and pepper to your taste. If you’re a fan of cozy festive flavors, sprinkle in a little rosemary this adds a nice Christmassy kick. Use a spoon or your hands to mix it thoroughly, making sure the seasoning is well spread throughout the mince.

2. Shape and Press onto Wraps

Once your turkey mince is seasoned, grab your mini wraps. Take about 100g of the mince mixture and shape it into a ball. Then, place that ball directly in the center of one mini wrap. Use your hands or the back of a spoon to press it down gently but firmly, spreading the mince into a flat, even layer that sticks to the wrap. This will become the taco’s crispy, meaty base.

3. Fry the Turkey Side First

Heat up your non-stick frying pan on medium heat and give it a quick spray of olive oil. Carefully place your prepared wrap, meat side down, into the pan. Cook for about 5 minutes. This will allow the turkey to brown and cook through while bonding with the wrap to create a delicious crust. You’ll know it’s ready to flip when the edges of the meat start to turn golden and slightly crispy.

4. Flip and Add Festive Fillings

After the meat side has cooked and crisped up, use your spatula to carefully flip the wrap over so the wrap side is on the pan and the meat is on top. Now comes the fun part layering your fillings! On one half of the taco (leaving the other half empty so it can fold), add a spoonful of prepared stuffing mix, a little cranberry sauce, a couple slices of brie, and one pig in blanket (cut in half if needed to fit). Try not to overstuff it’ll make folding harder.

5. Fold and Brush with Gravy (Optional)

Once your fillings are in place, gently fold the empty side of the wrap over the fillings to create a taco shape. If you have some leftover gravy, use a brush to lightly coat both sides of the folded taco. This step adds a boost of savory flavor and helps the taco crisp up even more in the pan.

6. Final Toasting on Both Sides

After folding, press the taco slightly with your spatula to hold its shape. Let it cook for about 1 minute on each side, flipping once. This step helps everything inside melt together while also giving the outer shell that perfect golden finish. Keep the heat at medium so nothing burns, and press lightly to seal the edges as it toasts.

7. Repeat and Serve

Repeat the whole process with your remaining wraps and turkey mince until you have six delicious smashed Christmas tacos. Serve them hot, straight from the pan for best flavor and texture. They’re crispy, cheesy, sweet, savory, and bursting with holiday goodness in every bite!

Ingredients

  • 500g turkey mince

  • Salt + pepper (to taste)

  • Rosemary (optional but so festive)

  • 6 mini wraps

  • Olive oil spray

  • 40g stuffing mix (prepared)

  • 15g cranberry sauce

  • 65g brie cheese (sliced)

  • 2 chipolatas wrapped in bacon (aka pigs in blankets)

Directions

  • In a small bowl, mix your turkey mince with salt, pepper, and a little rosemary if you like that cozy holiday flavor.
  • Scoop about 100g of mince and press it flat onto the center of each mini wrap. This forms your turkey smash base!
  • Heat your frying pan over medium and spray with olive oil. Place the taco meat-side-down and cook for 5 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  • Flip the wrap so the meat is now on top. On one half, layer some stuffing, a bit of cranberry sauce, brie, and a piece of pig in blanket.
  • Fold it over into a taco shape. Brush a little gravy on both sides if you’ve got some left – this makes it extra savory.
  • Cook each side for about 1 more minute, pressing lightly with a spatula to seal the edges and crisp it up.
  • Repeat for all 6 tacos – then dig in!

Notes

  • Make sure to press the mince flat enough on the wrap so it cooks through evenly.
  • Don’t overload the fillings inside or it might fall apart when you fold it!
  • Let the cheese melt just a bit before folding it helps everything stick together.
  • Use medium heat too high and the wraps might burn before the meat is done.

Serving Suggestions

Serve these smashed Christmas tacos with a side of roast veggies, sweet potato fries, or even a cheeky drizzle of extra cranberry or gravy on the side. They’re also great with a little festive salad or some leftover sprouts if you’re feeling brave!

Fun Fact

Did you know tacos date back to the 18th century, but Christmas tacos? That’s a 2020s invention and we’re here for it. Mixing traditions makes every bite even better!
